Kota

A feast for Vultures here.

Sarus Crane breeds near Kota.

Taking a boat ride on the Chambal River for about half a day is excitement, flanked on both sides by the high Vindhyan hills over which are found the breeding colonies of Long-billed Vultures. Egyptian and King Vultures are also spotted. However, White-backed Vulture, which was fairly common in the country, is seldom observed here. More than hundred Long-billed can be observed on eggs.

Vulture Sightings : Dusky Eagle Owl, Spotted Owlet, Large-tailed Nightjar, Indian Nightjar, Black-shouldered Kite, Black Kite, and some Eagles soaring in the sky are certainties. Woolly-necked Stork, Cormorants, Egrets, Herons along the banks and noisy Parakeets crossing the river will be additions. Gavial and Marsh Crocodile are observed basking in the sun over rocks by the side of water.

After boating is over, we drive towards Rana Pratap Sagar to spot land and arboreal birds, including White-backed Vulture in this region. One day can be reserved for this area. Sarus Crane breeds in some areas along the Chambal distributory canals near Kota.
